"The Shadow" is the second chapter in "A Wizard of Earthsea." In it, Ogion takes Ged under his wing and travels to Re Albi, Ogion's hometown. He meets a girl who asks him if he can summon a spirit of the dead. He goes back to Ogion's house and tries this, but it results badly. So Ogion sends Ged to Roke Island, where he can learn to control his magic.
